SPLASH!
Hiyayaka dove into the shallow waters of his claimed lake, a sigh of content escaping his lips. The beast, a massive polar bear, waded about into the deep end, allowing his large body to be coated in the cool liquid. His muzzle would dip under the surface every so often, and he'd take a drink. Suddenly, he paused, staring intensely at something swimming just a few inches away. A decently-sized fish, perfect for an afternoon snack. Hiyayaka leapt towards the fish, growling lowly as his jaws parted. Another splash echoed through the woods as the bear landed. The fish never knew what hit it, and was soon dangling lifelessly from its attacker's maw. Hiyayaka gobbled it up quickly, grunting in satisfaction. Yes...he'd quite like this place. All he'd have to do was remain out of sight. It'd be easier said than done, but...Hiyayaka was a proud member of his species. If any creature could survive in the wild, it'd be him.

Koshiro traveled along on his own, his band of dogs either resting or off hunting acts they decided to stay in the area for the day. Pretty colors surrounding them as the fall changed the colors of all the leaves on the tree. Leaves fell from their branches and swirled around in the sky, it was such a nice sight to see! It was a delightful day out, despite the chilly weather outside, and the woods were generally noiseless... aside from the rather loud splash sound Koshiro just heard. He came to a halt in the middle of his hunt and gazed around the area, before hearing the large splash once more. Curiosity piqued he followed the sound, coming to a lake where he was sure was the source of the splashing.

Hiyayaka had prepared to pounce on another fish, when he suddenly froze. A strange scent entered his nose, one that he grew to remember in his travels. It belonged to those strange, yapping creatures; miniature wolves, he'd taken to calling them. He, of course, had never come across dogs in the tundra, and he'd never truly encountered them until he'd broken free from the zoo. Wild dogs would defend their territories from him, and while he bore the scars from their attacks, not every dog he encountered had lived to see the next day. Would this dog face the same fate? Hiyayaka turned in the direction of the scent, making out a glimpse of orange and white. There, in the trees...he could make out the figure of a young dog watching him. Hiyayaka studied the dog carefully, slowly approaching the edge of the lake. He let out a low, rumbling growl.

Koshiro’s eyes widened in terror as his gaze landed a white bear, not just a regular bear, this one was completely white! He had never seen such a thing before! He did hear of one though from his father and uncle during that time the dogs battled of all the hybrid bears, but he didn’t think he would see one for himself! While he had been in thought Koshiro didn’t notice right away that the bear spotted him, and was now growling at him. He was now staring the bear in the face, and was unsure of what he should do. The bear hadn’t done anything to hurt him or his comrades, and it didn’t deserve to be hurt or die simply because it was a bear so Koshiro decided against attacking him, but was running a smart idea either? It might give chase!
koshiro lowered his head, not taking his eyes off the bear. He let out a small, non-aggressive woof in hopes that the bear would maybe understand, but highly doubt it. If the bear truly wanted to maul him to death the akita mix was rather confident he could outrun the much larger creature.

Hiyayaka paused, his eyes widening slightly. He'd heard the growls and barks of dogs before, but this...? His lips curled back into what looked like an amused smirk. A soft, guttural sound emitted from his throat. It sounded almost like...laughter.
"Geheheh..." Hiyayaka tilted his head inquisitively, still staring at Koshiro. "Puny wolf...what's happened to your howl?" It almost made him wish he'd paid more attention to the wolves in the zoos he'd been so that he could pick up their speech. The polar bear supposed it didn't matter now; he had no reason to hold conversation. Hiyayaka understood now, though, that Koshiro was meek and harmless, not like other dogs he'd encountered. Still...letting even one dog intrude on his land felt wrong.
"Hmmph..." grumbled the bear. "Run back to your pack, puny one." Hiyayaka stalked forward, stepping out of the lake and parting his jaws, exposing sharp, yellow teeth. He wouldn't charge, though. Not yet.

The male tensed as the bear got out of the lake, feeling intimidated by his large size. He supposed his woof didn’t do the trick, and now a small growl was sounding in his throat. It was hushed, but it was supposed to send a signal to the bear. Koshiro decided that perhaps it was time he got out of there, and he started to back away slowly... slowly... growing a little faster and faster... until he felt his behind smack into a tree, causing Koshiro to yelp in alarm. He bounced away from the tree and looked behind himself in a panic, finally taking his attention away from the beastly bear.
He quickly looked back at the bear, silently cursing his own stupid clumsiness.

"GYAHAHA!" Hiyayaka laughed, much louder this time as he threw back his head. It was a wonder the small thing had survived for this long! Hiyayaka now felt comfortable enough to return back to the lake, occasionally looking back at Koshiro just to be on the safe side. Hopefully, the "wolf" had gotten the message as to who's territory this was, and Hiyayaka wouldn't have to get his claws dirty. It was a win-win for both of them. Of course, that would only be the case if they didn't cross paths again. Though Hiyayaka was amused by Koshiro's foolishness, he knew that dogs weren't the type to back off easily. The polar bear couldn't help but frown a bit at the thought of having to skewer the small thing on one of his claws.

Koshiro had prepared to see the bear lunge at him, but was surprised when he saw the beast turn back to the lake. “Wha...?” Koshiro muttered aloud. He had always thought bears were vicious, using any chance they could to kill, why didn’t this bear take the chance to maul him? It was strange, to say the least. Perhaps this bear wasn’t so bad...? No. He wouldn’t take that chance, he wasn’t going to stick around and wait for the bear to change his mind... Or would he? The bear’s less than savage nature really made him curious, and instead of running away like he had initially planned Koshiro took a few pawsteps forward, trying to walk carefully so he wouldn’t intimidate the bear.
“H-Hello! I’ve never seen a bear like you before!” He woofed to the bear, though he wondered if that made him look stupid, how could the bear even understand him?

"Eh?" muttered Hiyayaka, cocking a brow. He might not have been able to understand Koshiro's barks, but he detected no malice in his voice. It was...definitely strange. Any other creature would've attacked him or fled by this point. Was he desperate to die? Or was he too stupid to know any better? Hiyayaka turned a bit, not directly facing Koshiro, but rather looking at him from the corner of his eye. "Foolish wolf...don't you see I'm giving you the chance to live? Get out of here!" The bear's massive paw scooped up a medium-sized rock from the bottom of the lake, and he flung it at Koshiro with a warning grunt. He didn't aim for the dog, but rather, near him.

“I suspected as much...” Koshiro whispered to himself. He should have just figured from the start that he and the bear wouldn’t have been able to understand one another. He could hear the bear grumbling and growling but aside from that it was total nonsense to Koshiro, and he assumed that the white bear heard the same thing from him.
He watched the bears movements carefully, and it didn’t pass him by that the bear put his late paw into the water and flung a big rock towarads him. Koshiro was sure he was dog food, watching as the rock hurtled towards him. He dodged to the side swiftly, only to see that the rock would not have hit him anyway...
“...?” Koshiro stared at the rock, and then back to the bear. He figured he really was just agitating the guy now, and Koshiro guesses that maybe he should take his leave before he really made the bear claw him one. Koshiro gave the bear one last look, still finding it pretty cool that there was such a thing as a bear that didn’t rip a dog to pieces the second it saw one! With a soundless nod to the bear Koshiro finally turned away for good, going back into the woods. Maybe he would check up on the bear again later before he and his dogs took to traveling again, but for now he was smart enough to provoke the innocent bear. It was a good thing he was leaving too, he could hear his own stomach growl and he knew it was time to really find a meal! He left the bear to his own thing, knowing he would totally tell his buddies about him!

"Ah..." grunted Hiyayaka contently. "Finally, it gets it. Took it long enough." The bear stepped out of the lake again, finding that he was no longer hungry and that he was cool enough. For now, at least. Hiyayaka never realized how much he longed for the tundra...Sighing, the massive bear shook out his long, wet fur. His fur fluffed out, and for a moment, he looked almost approachable. Yawning, Hiyayaka decided to hunt for a cool cave to rest in. He'd check the territory again later. Hopefully, the little, red pup would be gone by then. A thought passed in the back of the polar bear's mind. Did he really need to kill such a foolish, little thing? Hiyayaka shook his head quickly. "Don't get soft," he scolded himself.
